New Tottenham Coach, Conte bans ketchup and mayonnaise to tackle weight
New Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte was less than impressed by the physical appearance of the players on his arrival at the club and has swiftly take measures to deal with it, including banning ketchup and mayonnaise.
The Italian boss has wasted no time in making a number of changes to the nutrition side of things at the north London club in a bid to get his players in better shape.
The former Inter head coach is clearly keen to set his expectations early and set them high. Conte has also not been afraid to confront a number of first-team players and tell them they are overweight and must cut down what they eat.
As well ketchup and mayonnaise disappearing from the Spurs canteen, sandwiches and other heavy items will also be a thing of the past. Players are being encouraged to eat more fruit, but they will be given less fruit juice.
There will also be a cutback in the amount of butter and oil used to prepare food in the club kitchens. Additionally, players will have to eat their midday meal together as a squad.
“I must be honest. We need to change many things,” said Conte after Sunday’s draw at Everton.
“Every player needs to work to improve physical condition to get into my idea of football.
“They need to increase their capacity to suffer.”
