Florence Eshalomi, a Nigerian-British politician, has been named the United Kingdom’s new trade envoy to Nigeria.

Eshalomi confirmed her appointment in a post on X, expressing her excitement about strengthening the economic ties between the two nations.

“It is an honour to have been appointed as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria. I’m looking forward to building on my close ties with Nigeria to promote a strong and flourishing economic relationship between our two great nations,” she wrote.

She further emphasized her commitment to enhancing UK-Nigeria relations and exploring mutual economic opportunities.

Who Is Florence Eshalomi?

  • Political Career: Eshalomi is the MP for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green, a newly created constituency she won in 2024. She previously served as the MP for Vauxhall from 2019, succeeding Kate Hoey.
  • Background: Born on September 18, 1980, in Birmingham, she is the daughter of a Nigerian father, Anthony Nosegbe. She was the first in her family to attend university, earning a degree in Political & International Studies with Law from Middlesex University.
  • Early Career: She started working at 16 at Sainsbury’s before moving into public affairs and campaigning.
  • Local Government Experience: She began her political career as a local councilor for Brixton Hill in Lambeth Borough Council, London.
  • Family Life: Eshalomi is married to Matthew, and they have two children, Mia and Malachi.
