Nigerian Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye Reveals His Afrobeats Favorite
Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye recently shared his favorite artist in the Afrobeats genre, expressing a clear preference for Davido over Burna Boy. In a video making rounds on social media, Okoye was asked to choose between the two prominent musicians. He acknowledged Burna Boy’s talent but declared that, for him, Davido stands out.
When pressed for his personal choice, Okoye responded confidently, “Davido! Of course, Burna Boy is top, but for me, Davido is ahead. Personally, I listen more to Davido’s songs.” He elaborated that while his playlist includes Burna Boy, he has a larger collection of Davido’s tracks.
Okoye also mentioned his musical preferences, noting that he doesn’t listen to Wizkid as much. Instead, he enjoys music from other artists like Peruzzi. “I think I said I’m not listening to much of Wizkid and Davido or so, but smaller artistes like Peruzzi, but Davido is top top,” he exclaimed.
The Nigerian music scene has long been dominated by the trio of Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid, often referred to by fans as the “big cats.” This has sparked debates among fans about who is the superior artist, with newer stars being seen as the “smaller cats.”
Maduka Okoye gained significant attention for his impressive appearance during Nigeria’s participation in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Ivory Coast. Despite his popularity, he is currently facing challenges in making a comeback to the national team. This struggle follows an error that contributed to Nigeria’s elimination from the 2021 AFCON, where they lost 1-0 to Tunisia in the round of 16.
