Nigerian Senate Refutes Claims of Padding 2024 Budget
The Nigerian Senate has categorically denied allegations circulating on various media platforms suggesting that it padded the 2024 appropriation budget by more than N4 trillion.
In a statement released to Senate Correspondents, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, expressed skepticism regarding the motives behind spreading such misinformation. Adaramodu highlighted the transparent process through which the budget underwent scrutiny before being signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.
Adaramodu clarified that the budget document, outlining anticipated revenue and expenditure, had already been made public. He stressed that the 10th Senate, led by Senator Godswill Akpabio, had no knowledge of any altered version of the budget.
The statement emphasized: “There is no budget padding as far as the Senate and the National Assembly are concerned.” Adaramodu reiterated that the budget presentation and approval processes were conducted transparently, with the Presidential assent also being a part of a public ceremony.
He assured the public that any discrepancies in the budget execution would have been addressed within the Senate’s oversight capacity.
The statement concluded by affirming the Senate’s confidence in the strict execution of the 2024 appropriation law under rigorous legislative oversight, reassuring the public that there is no instance of budget padding.
