Nigerian Sports Federations Encouraged to Partner With betPawa for Player Welfare

Nigerian sports federations have been urged to collaborate with leading iGaming company betPawa to improve player welfare across the country. This call was made during an interview on Lagos Talks FM’s Sports Zone show, featuring betPawa representatives Raquel Puig and Nii Ashong-Katai Armah.

The discussion highlighted betPawa’s Locker Room Bonus, an initiative designed to provide real-time financial rewards to players. Under this program, athletes who make the matchday squad receive instant cash payouts directly to their mobile wallets after a victory—ensuring they are compensated even before leaving the stadium. The initiative has already been successfully implemented in countries like Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania, significantly boosting morale and professionalizing local sports.

Since its launch, Ghana’s Premier League has distributed over 145 million naira (GH¢1.5 million) to players in the 2023/2024 season alone. The program has also expanded to women’s sports, offering equal payouts to female athletes in Ghana’s Women’s FA Cup, marking a step toward gender equality in African sports.

betPawa is now looking to introduce the Locker Room Bonus in Nigeria, calling on sports federations to collaborate in making this initiative a reality. This move follows a recent licensing agreement between betPawa’s parent company, pawaTech Group, and Choplife Gaming, led by Nigerian entrepreneur and music executive Mr Eazi, granting the latter operational rights for betPawa in Nigeria.

With its presence in 17 African countries, betPawa aims to revolutionize sports funding and athlete welfare in Nigeria, ensuring players receive fair and timely rewards for their efforts.
