Nigerian Student Ayelabola Breaks Guinness World Record for Longest Catwalk

A remarkable achievement has been made by Olalade Ayelabola, a student from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), who has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance walked by a model. On October 1, 2024, Nigeria’s Independence Day, Ayelabola completed a staggering 130.62 kilometers on the catwalk, showcasing her determination and talent.

Starting her record-breaking attempt at the indoor sports center of UNILAG, Ayelabola walked a total of 2,058 laps, which includes an impressive additional 10 kilometers beyond the initial goal. As a 500-level student studying Computer Science, she balanced her academic commitments with this ambitious undertaking, demonstrating her extraordinary dedication.

After completing the walk, Ayelabola expressed her gratitude on Instagram, saying, “I did it, everyone! My record is set. There were difficulties but I stood through it. There were pains but I refused to cower. Thank you for helping me do this. Thank you Nigeria.” Her heartfelt message highlighted the support she received from her teammates and the university community.

Throughout the catwalk, Ayelabola showcased an array of stunning outfits designed by talented Nigerian designers, with contributions from her institution’s Theatre Arts Department. This event not only highlighted her modeling skills but also promoted local fashion talent, making it a celebration of Nigerian creativity.

Although her impressive feat has gained significant attention, the record is yet to be officially recognized and confirmed by the Guinness World Records. Nevertheless, Ayelabola’s achievement has inspired many and shines a light on the incredible potential of Nigerian youth in various fields.
