Nigerian University Cancels Final Year Exams Over Wild Jubilation
The management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, in Edo State, has canceled some final year exams written on Wednesday following “wild jubilation” by graduating students on campus. The decision came after an emergency meeting held by the university authorities.
According to a statement by the Head of Information/Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Mike Ade Oladenika, the jubilant actions of the students violated an established rule prohibiting such celebrations on campus. The incident involved students from the Faculty of Arts, including departments like Mass Communication, English, and History, who were seen engaging in disruptive behavior such as car displays, the use of sirens, spraying of money, and blocking access roads.
The statement reads, “Despite the memo prohibiting wild jubilation and celebration on campus, graduating students from the affected departments violated the directive of the University Management.”
As a result of these actions, the university announced the cancellation of exams written on Wednesday, including but not limited to courses such as ELS 411, MAC 414, and HIS 416. The statement further revealed that the management would decide when the canceled exams will be rescheduled in the near future.
