Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari Not Pregnant, Down With Ailment Suspected To Be Cancer
Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, was believed to be pregnant following new photos of her with a ‘baby bump’ that emerged on social media.
President Buhari and Aisha returned to Nigeria on Sunday after attending the three-day Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit in Istanbul
New photos of the First Lady at the airport have sparked pregnancy rumour across the country, with Nigerians wondering if she is actually expecting a baby.
In one of the photos, Aisha was seen wearing a yellow lace kaftan and a black shawl draped over what appeared like a baby bump and the 50-year-old first lady tenderly placed her right hand on it.
Another image showed the first couple seated in a plane. A zoom-in on Mrs Buhari shows a full face like that of a pregnant woman, different from her usual robust youthful visage.
A third picture showed Aisha and the 79-year-old president on the plane’s stairs, with an apparent baby bump as the first lady gently stepped down the flight of stairs.
The photos have sparked a lot of reactions on social media with many Nigerians are asking if the First Lady is “pregnant” as the Presidency is yet to confirm or deny the reports.
However, a source said that Aisha isn’t expecting a baby but down with an ailment.
He added that drugs being taken by the First Lady caused her to gain weight and also affected her shape.
“She’s not pregnant. She’s treating an undisclosed disease which is believed to be cancer. The drugs she’s taking had caused her to gain weight,” the source said.
In August 2020, Aisha was flown to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for urgent medical treatment after complaining of neck pain.
The neck pain was said to have started shortly after she returned to Abuja from a trip to Lagos in July where she had visited Florence, widow of former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who died of coronavirus complications on June 25, 2020.
In September 2020, the First Lady relocated to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, citing insecurity in the Aso Rock Villa.
