Expulsion of Kwankwaso and Others Upheld by NNPP Faction

Kwankwaso, along with others, remains expelled from the NNPP faction, as asserted by the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) in a statement. The faction, in a plea to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urged the updating of records regarding the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) membership.

The BoT chairman, Temitope Aluko, emphasized the need for media adherence to the NNPP constitution, recognizing only officers elected in accordance with the party’s rules. Notably, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and the former National Working Committee (NWC), led by Abbah Kawu, were expelled, and INEC duly informed.

Aluko stressed that INEC lacks authority to intervene in a political party’s internal affairs. He reiterated the faction’s request for INEC to promptly update its records, highlighting the supremacy of the NNPP constitution over other legal frameworks.

The BoT chairman clarified that while INEC has constitutional powers to regulate political parties, it must refrain from interfering in their internal management. He criticized expelled NNPP members, including Kwankwaso, for violating the party’s constitution, citing instances of corruption, high-handedness, and lack of transparency.

Aluko expressed concern over INEC’s continued engagement with expelled members, despite the matter being before a Federal High Court. He urged INEC to act neutrally and respect the internal administration of political parties.

In addressing the media, Aluko emphasized that there is no faction in the NNPP. He reiterated that Kwankwaso and the old NWC led by Kawu are expelled, with the new principal officers being Dr. Gilbert Agbo Major, Comrade Ogini Samuel, and Dr. TKO Aluko. He urged the media to recognize these legitimate leaders and called for the independence of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) from INEC’s influence in promoting genuine democracy in Nigeria.
