Ogun Free Surgical Intervention Programme Benefits Over 100 Patients

Over 100 individuals have already benefitted from the ongoing Free Surgical Intervention Programme launched by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, demonstrating a significant impact on healthcare accessibility in the state.

The programme commenced with patient registration on Monday, followed by the commencement of surgical operations on Tuesday, across six State Hospitals and 40 General Hospitals statewide.

Notable statistics reveal that 36 surgical procedures were conducted at the State Hospital in Abeokuta, with additional procedures performed at Ijebu Ode (22), Ilaro (6), and Ifo (4). Furthermore, General Hospitals witnessed surgeries in locations such as Odeda, Owode-Egba, Ikenne, Iperu, and Imeko, in addition to the Olikoye Ransome Kuti Memorial Hospital in Asero, Abeokuta.

Chief Medical Director of the State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, Dr. Bababunmi Osinaike, highlighted the seamless execution of the intervention programme, reporting that 491 individuals were registered at the hospital, with 36 patients successfully undergoing surgery. Surgical cases encompassed various specialties, including general surgery, orthopedics, and ophthalmology, addressing conditions such as hernias, undescended testicles, breast lumps, and lipomas.

Dr. Samuel Tolulope, Head of Clinical Services overseeing the surgical operations, affirmed the smooth operation of the free surgery programme, underscoring its significance in providing essential healthcare services to the community, with zero fatalities recorded.

Testimonials from beneficiaries such as Mr. Owolabi Soletire and Mr. Sunday Alayade expressed gratitude for the opportunity afforded by the programme, praising Governor Abiodun’s commitment to public health.

Meanwhile, at the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, 23 successful surgical procedures have been completed under the programme, with plans for continued operations until March 31, 2024. Dr. Banjo Adeoye, the Medical Director of the hospital, expressed appreciation for Governor Abiodun’s support in extending access to free healthcare to the less privileged, as the hospital continues to witness an increase in patient registrations.

Beneficiaries like Mrs. Arinola Adenuga, Okuwobi Ayomide, Onaleye Solomon, and Olusola Abdulquazeem echoed sentiments of gratitude towards Governor Abiodun, highlighting the programme’s significant impact on their lives and the alleviation of financial burdens associated with healthcare expenses.
