Ogun Speaker Advocates for Rural Road Attention

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has called upon Governor Dapo Abiodun to address the deteriorating condition of rural roads across the state.

Concerns Raised on Road Infrastructure

During a plenary session, concerns were raised by a member representing Ifo II State Constituency, Folawewo Salami, regarding the poor state of road networks in his constituency. Salami highlighted several impassable roads, including the Ijoko/Ajuwon/Alagbole and Hercules/Toyin/Giwa routes, emphasizing the urgent need for government intervention.

Speaker’s Directive for Immediate Action

In response to the concerns raised, Speaker Elemide directed the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure to collaborate with the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and the State Public Works Agency (OGPWA) to initiate immediate construction and rehabilitation efforts. The aim is to address road challenges across the state before the onset of the rainy season.

Commendation for Collaborative Governance

Additionally, the Speaker commended Governor Abiodun for fostering collaborative governance, which has facilitated intervention projects and empowerment programs spearheaded by members of the National Assembly. Elemide highlighted the significance of such collaborative efforts in driving development initiatives and enhancing the well-being of constituents.

Promoting Inclusive Development

Reflecting on past challenges, Speaker Elemide acknowledged the positive shift towards inclusive governance under the Abiodun administration. He noted that previous political differences between state governors and National Assembly members often hindered development projects. The current collaborative approach, however, aligns with the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and development, particularly evident in intervention projects like rural electrification initiatives.

The Speaker affirmed that these intervention projects complement the administration’s agenda, contributing to the realization of developmental goals and the enhancement of livelihoods across Ogun State.
