Ohanaeze Ndigbo Urges Tinubu to Drop Treason Charges Against Kanu

Okechukwu Isiguzoro, a prominent member of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has issued a heartfelt appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to dismiss the treason and terrorism charges leveled against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Isiguzoro’s plea comes in the wake of the Federal Government’s decision to drop similar charges against activist Omoyele Sowore, signaling a call for parity and justice under the law.

In a statement released by Isiguzoro, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, he emphasized the importance of integrity and fairness in the legal proceedings against Kanu. He urged President Tinubu to demonstrate bold leadership by aligning with principles of justice and equality, as evidenced by the recent dismissal of charges against Sowore.

Isiguzoro underscored the significance of Kanu’s release, portraying it not merely as a legal matter but as a moral imperative and a pivotal step towards rectifying past injustices. He stressed the profound impact that Kanu’s liberation would have on fostering reconciliation and peace in the Southeast region, thereby contributing to Nigeria’s journey towards national unity and cohesion.

He emphasized the non-negotiable principles of consistency and equality before the law, highlighting the importance of upholding democratic values and the rule of law.

Isiguzoro’s impassioned plea resonates with Nigerians, particularly the Ndigbo community, who fervently seek justice and equitable treatment for Kanu. He called upon President Tinubu to make a decision that reflects a commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and the promotion of national unity.

As the nation awaits President Tinubu’s response, Isiguzoro’s appeal serves as a poignant reminder of the imperative for leaders to prioritize justice and uphold the rule of law, fostering a climate of harmony and reconciliation in Nigeria.
