Omoni Oboli Removes Movie Following Plagiarism Allegations
Nollywood actress Omoni Oboli has responded to allegations of plagiarism regarding a recent film she released on her YouTube channel. The actress, who is also a mother of three, took to her official Instagram page to address the claims made by film producer Susan Jimah. Jimah alleged that Oboli’s YouTube film bore striking similarities to her own project titled Hope Given.
In her Instagram post, Oboli expressed her apologies for the situation and reassured her followers of her commitment to producing original content. She explained that the issue arose from a script she had purchased from a scriptwriter, who had already sold the same script to another producer back in 2022.
Oboli also shared that the movie had been removed from her YouTube channel in response to the feedback she received about the similarity between the two films. She emphasized that her channel is dedicated to originality and that the movie would remain unavailable until the matter is fully investigated.
“We know you’re probably wondering why the latest movie isn’t available anymore on the channel. We’ve received feedback that it bears a striking resemblance to another film on YouTube. As a channel committed to originality, we’ve decided to remove the movie while we investigate the situation,” Oboli wrote.
The actress assured her fans that she was working with the scriptwriter to understand what had happened and was also consulting with her legal team to resolve the issue. Oboli concluded her post by thanking her supporters for their understanding and continued love.
This incident has sparked significant attention, and Oboli’s prompt action shows her dedication to resolving the matter while maintaining her reputation for originality in the Nollywood industry.
