Organised Private Sector Agrees With Lagos On Water Regulation
Members of the organised private sector(OPS) made up of the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Employers Consultative Association and the Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, among others, have agreed to comply with the Lagos State Government’s resolve to regulate and sanitise the water sector for environmental sustainability and access to water. The Executive Secretary of Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, said on Wednesday the commission was ready to enforce the provisions of the law towards ensuring the safety of residents in terms of safe water consumption and also protecting the environment. The Executive Secretary noted that in view of safeguarding the residents of the state, the monitoring and enforcement unit of the commission would intensify its activities to ensure that operators comply with good manufacturing practices and producers engage in wholesome practices, adding that the absence of regulation portended great danger for the availability of portable water and protection of the environment. She said the governor has granted concessions as requested by the OPS on charges relating to water abstraction, licensing and permits. “This is a clear demonstration of the commitment of Mr Governor to protect businesses and encourage them to thrive, especially with post COVID-19 and the attendant effect on the economy.
