Over 8,000 Candidates Register for Maiden CB-WASSCE Despite Initial Resistance

Despite initial resistance, a total of 8,285 candidates have registered for the first maiden computer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) in Nigeria. Dr. Amos Josiah, the Head of National Office at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, made this announcement recently.

Scheduled to take place from Wednesday, January 31 to Saturday, February 17, the examination marks a significant shift towards digital assessment methods. Candidates can expect their results to be released approximately 45 days after the conclusion of the examination.

Dr. Josiah emphasized that WAEC has implemented measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination. The CB-WASSCE will be delivered in a hybrid mode, combining on-screen questions with responses using both digital and traditional paper methods.

While acknowledging the initial resistance to the computer-based examination, WAEC remains committed to innovation and providing viable alternatives to traditional pen-and-paper assessments. Dr. Josiah emphasized that this bold step underscores WAEC’s vision of being a world-class examining body and its commitment to innovation in assessment methods.
