Oxlade Opens Up About Why He Thinks Love Is Overrated

Nigerian singer Oxlade has shared the personal experiences that led him to believe that love is overrated. In an interview on The 90’s Baby Show, Oxlade discussed the inspiration behind his lyric “I feel like love is overrated” from his song “Intoxicated.”

During the interview, Oxlade was asked about his past relationship and what led him to feel this way about love. He chose not to name his ex-girlfriend directly, referring to her only as “a thing.” He explained that revealing her identity could cause unnecessary drama and harassment, noting the power of the internet and how fans might react.

Oxlade elaborated that his disillusionment with love was influenced not just by his ex but also by societal pressures. He recounted a painful memory from his past, sharing how he overheard his ex’s friends questioning her choice of partner when he was not yet financially established. This incident, he said, significantly impacted him and changed his view on love.

The singer explained that while his love for her was genuine and based on true feelings rather than material wealth, the judgment from others and the eventual public scrutiny contributed to the end of their relationship. He saw her later with someone else, which further deepened his sense of disillusionment.

Oxlade’s experience taught him that true love is rare and not guaranteed to be found easily. He emphasized that while love can be wonderful, it is not always present, and one must be fortunate and patient to experience it. His reflections reveal a nuanced view on love, shaped by personal hardships and societal influences.
