Patrick Doyle Questions Davido’s Outfit for Meeting Olu of Warri

Veteran actor Patrick Doyle has sparked a debate over Afrobeats star Davido’s choice of attire during a recent visit to the Olu of Warri. Davido was in Warri on Saturday for a performance and stopped by the palace of the Olu, accompanied by fellow musician Phyno.

Photos from their visit, which were shared online, raised questions about the appropriateness of Davido’s casual outfit, consisting of brown shorts and a white shirt. Patrick Doyle, an Itsekiri native, took to social media to voice his concerns, asking if the outfit was suitable for meeting a king of the Olu’s stature. He shared a photo of Davido with the Olu, captioning it, “Is this appropriate dressing to visit the palace of a king, the calibre of the Olu of Warri?”

The post quickly attracted various reactions, with many defending Davido’s choice. Azuka Jebose argued that Davido’s outfit was appropriate, stating, “He is not naked. He stood honorably and respectfully. He did not desecrate the King or the throne.” Another user, Tunde Adebola, posed a thought-provoking question: “What if he were a white guy? Unless there’s a specific dress code, it’s not wrong.”

Jeff Uzor added, “If the palace attendants allowed it, I guess it’s fine,” while Bukky Plumptre remarked that although the outfit seemed unplanned, Davido is known for being respectful towards royals and elders.

Despite Doyle’s concerns, it appears that many fans believe Davido’s casual attire was fitting for the occasion.
