Police Prepare for Possible Protests in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) security apparatus is on high alert due to planned protests by some aggrieved youth groups in Abuja. The Nigerian Police Force, along with military personnel, has deployed massive security measures, particularly around the Central Business District, in anticipation of the demonstrations.
Commuters and civil servants in the area have experienced significant disruptions as heavy blockades by police and military personnel have made it difficult to access offices. Key buildings, including those of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), have been heavily guarded by stern-faced security forces.
The protests are coinciding with the grand finale of the National Police Day, set to take place at Eagle Square, Abuja, further intensifying the security presence. Despite the heightened measures, the protests have continued, with demonstrators seen holding placards around the Transcorp Hilton and Maitama areas.
The situation remains tense, and authorities are closely monitoring the developments to prevent any escalation of violence or disorder. The protests have raised concerns about public safety, with the police and military vowing to ensure peace while allowing for the right to protest.
With protests scheduled to continue, the authorities’ focus will be on balancing security and maintaining order in the capital city.
