President Tinubu Emphasizes Collaboration with Varsity Unions for Education Sector Transformation

 

President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ during the 31st convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta. Speaking to the 3,574 graduands, Tinubu emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to enhance service delivery and drive rapid transformation in the education sector.

Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, President Tinubu expressed the government’s commitment to engaging critical stakeholders in the education sector to exchange ideas and provide necessary support for agricultural development. As the visitor to the institution, he urged university-based unions to view themselves as partners in progress with the government, stressing that effective management of the education system requires collective support from all stakeholders.

President Tinubu cautioned against strikes by university unions, highlighting the adverse effects on the academic system and emphasizing the need for uninterrupted academic activities to maintain global competitiveness. He encouraged unions to resolve issues through dialogue and cooperation, fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence.

In his message, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, commended FUNAAB for its achievements as a leading agricultural-based institution in Nigeria. He urged the university to align with President Tinubu’s vision to address food security challenges and empower graduates to drive agricultural transformation.

Chancellor His Royal Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon, the Obong of Calabar, commended FUNAAB’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in national development. He praised President Tinubu’s efforts in advancing the education sector, particularly through initiatives like the Integrated Payroll and Personal Information Scheme (IPPIS).

The convocation ceremony celebrated FUNAAB’s academic achievements and underscored the importance of collaboration between government, universities, and unions to achieve sustainable development in the education sector. As graduates embark on their professional journeys, they are poised to become ambassadors of agricultural transformation, contributing to Nigeria’s food security and economic prosperity.
