Nigerian Football Federation will have to look elsewhere as highly rated midfielder Michael Olise has committed his international future to his country of birth.

It was reported in the Nigerian media few weeks ago that Reading Football Club young prodigy Michael Olise is a top target for Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr and his technical crew.

But things might not work out as the three time African champions this time as reports coming from the French media has it that the enterprising player has rejected an invitation into the Nigeria senior soccer team setup.

Gernot Rohr is poised on sorting out the creative midfield issues in the Super Eagles squad with the duo of Michael Olise and Ovie Ejaria as eligible options.

According to owngoalnigeria.com, the 19-year-old has turned down an invitation into the Super Eagles for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers slated for March.

Nigeria will host Lesotho and will also travel to Benin Republic for their two remaining fixtures in the race to the African football tournament to be staged in Cameroon.

“It is France for me for the sake of continuity. It’s true that I have other options and you never know what will happen in the future. It’s a straightforward decision now”, Michael Olise quoted in the French media.

The player is also eligible to play for England, Algeria and Nigeria but he opted to represent the country of his mother even though his younger Richard Olise has represented England at junior level.
