Reps Call for Emergency Security Briefing Over Insecurity in FCT and Surrounding Areas

The House of Representatives has taken decisive action in response to the escalating insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs by resolving to summon key security stakeholders for an emergency briefing and strategy meeting. This decision comes amidst growing concerns over the alarming rate of criminal activities plaguing the nation’s capital and surrounding areas.

The motion for the emergency briefing, sponsored by Hon. Dominic Okafor, highlighted the urgent need for collaboration and coordination among security agencies to effectively address the security challenges facing the FCT. The House underscored the importance of deploying specialized units within security formations to track and apprehend criminal elements operating within and around the Territory.

In addition to summoning the National Security Adviser (NSA), Inspector General of Police (IGP), and heads of all security agencies, the House also called on the Minister of the FCT to implement enhanced security measures, including the installation of security cameras and modern security equipment. The use of drones and other advanced technologies was emphasized as crucial for combating insecurity in the region.

Hon. Okafor emphasized the significance of leveraging technology, such as the registered National Identification Numbers (NIN), to enhance security operations and curb criminal activities. The unanimous support for the motion by members of the House reflects the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for decisive action. The motion has been referred to the appropriate House Committees for further legislative action, signaling the government’s commitment to addressing the pressing security challenges facing the nation’s capital and ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
