Reps Call for Emergency Security Briefing Over Insecurity in FCT and Surrounding Areas
The House of Representatives has taken decisive action in response to the escalating insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs by resolving to summon key security stakeholders for an emergency briefing and strategy meeting. This decision comes amidst growing concerns over the alarming rate of criminal activities plaguing the nation’s capital and surrounding areas.
The motion for the emergency briefing, sponsored by Hon. Dominic Okafor, highlighted the urgent need for collaboration and coordination among security agencies to effectively address the security challenges facing the FCT. The House underscored the importance of deploying specialized units within security formations to track and apprehend criminal elements operating within and around the Territory.
In addition to summoning the National Security Adviser (NSA), Inspector General of Police (IGP), and heads of all security agencies, the House also called on the Minister of the FCT to implement enhanced security measures, including the installation of security cameras and modern security equipment. The use of drones and other advanced technologies was emphasized as crucial for combating insecurity in the region.
Hon. Okafor emphasized the significance of leveraging technology, such as the registered National Identification Numbers (NIN), to enhance security operations and curb criminal activities. He highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach to address the evolving nature of criminality in the FCT and stressed the importance of economic and political restructuring to address underlying security concerns.
