Sanwo-Olu Reiterates Commitment to Education Funding

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the education sector, emphasizing unparalleled investments, funding, and infrastructure to enhance education in the state.

During the “TeachForNigeria: A Day with Mr. Governor” event held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced the state government’s collaboration with TeachForNigeria to establish a sustainable five-year programme called TeachForLagos.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted the recruitment of 275 Fellows into the teaching profession through the TeachForNigeria initiative since 2020, aiming to ensure comprehensive education coverage for all children in the state.

TeachForNigeria, a non-profit organization focused on eliminating educational inequity, partners with the Lagos State Government to enhance education and leadership with young graduates teaching core subjects in state schools.

Acknowledging the contribution of TeachForNigeria Fellows, Sanwo-Olu praised their commitment to the state’s education sector’s successes, both locally and internationally.

CEO of TeachForNigeria, Folawe Omikunle, outlined the initiative’s vision to impact one million children nationwide over the next decade. She emphasized the significant academic learning gains observed in classrooms where Fellows were placed, showcasing improved proficiency in mathematics, English, and basic sciences.

Omikunle expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Government for their support, underscoring the collaborative effort to ensure every child in Lagos receives quality education.

As the International Day of Education was commemorated, Omikunle called for continued partnership and collaboration to fulfill the vision of providing quality education to every child in Lagos State.
