Seun Kuti Faces Threats for Speaking Truth, Says ‘People Are Trying to Kill Me
Controversial Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has spoken out about the threats to his life, attributing them to his commitment to speaking truth to power.
In a recent Instagram post on February 4, 2024, Kuti shared excerpts from the book “Blaming the Victim,” noting that its themes still resonate today. He revealed that he faces constant challenges and threats due to his outspokenness on critical issues.
“People are trying to silence me in this country,” Kuti declared in the video. “I can’t tell you how many wars I am fighting alone. I can’t tell you how many cases in court for nothing, how many police invitations left, right and center for nothing.”
The musician lamented the attempts to tarnish his reputation and undermine his efforts, stating, “Because I am saying the truth, they are trying to destroy and kill me. They are trying to bring me down and tarnish my name.”
Drawing parallels with historical figures who faced similar challenges, Kuti emphasized the enduring pattern of suppressing truth-tellers throughout history. He defiantly asserted, “They have been silencing speakers of the truth since 705 BC.”
Kuti’s bold stance against perceived injustices has made him a target for backlash and intimidation, but he remains resolute in his commitment to speaking truthfully despite the risks.
