Seyi Vibez Shares Experience of Being Scammed in Attempt to Join Wizkid’s Starboy Entertainment
Renowned Nigerian singer, Seyi Vibez, recently opened up about a distressing encounter from his early career days, revealing how he fell victim to a scam while aspiring to join Wizkid’s acclaimed record label, Starboy Entertainment.
In a candid revelation during an interview with Wazobia FM, Lagos, the ‘Cana’ sensation recounted his naive attempt to navigate the music industry, which led to an unfortunate deception. Seyi Vibez disclosed that, at the age of 13, he eagerly sought guidance on how to join Starboy Entertainment and resorted to searching online for information.
“I remember when I was 13 years old, I wanted to sign to Starboy. I went to Google and typed, ‘How to register to Starboy record label.’ I saw one number and I called the number,” Seyi Vibez shared, reflecting on the pivotal moment that would ultimately end in disappointment.
According to Seyi Vibez, the individual on the other end of the line purported to be Wizkid’s recruitment officer and requested a payment of N10,000 for a registration form. Trusting in the legitimacy of the transaction, Seyi Vibez complied and made the payment, only to find himself blocked and deceived thereafter.
Recounting the ordeal, Seyi Vibez lamented, “That was how I sold my phone and paid the guy N10,000 but after the payment he blocked me. He told me that he was Wizkid’s recruitment officer. I said I would come for the screening, I would perform and Wizkid would judge my performance. So I fell for it.”
In light of his experience, Seyi Vibez offered a cautionary advice to aspiring artists, urging them to exercise caution and refrain from engaging in online registration processes for record labels without proper verification.
