Shakira Blames Piqué for Album Delay: ‘It Was Dragging Me Down
In a candid revelation during her appearance on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Jimmy Fallon, global superstar Shakira shed light on the reasons behind the delay in releasing her highly anticipated new album.
Titled “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), Shakira’s latest album carries a significant message reflecting changing social expectations for women. However, the Colombian singer shared that the prolonged hiatus between albums was also influenced by what she referred to as the “husband factor.”
Addressing the seven-year gap since her previous album, El Dorado, Shakira attributed the delay to her ex-husband without explicitly mentioning his name, widely believed to be footballer Gerard Piqué. She explained, “I’ve been putting out music here and there, but I think it was really hard for me to put together a body of work. I didn’t have time. It was the husband factor.”
Emphasizing her newfound freedom after parting ways with her ex-husband, Shakira declared, “Now I’m husband-less. The husband was dragging me down. Now I’m free! Now I can actually work!”
During the lively interview, Shakira also engaged in a lie detector test with Jimmy Fallon, playfully testing whether her iconic hips truly don’t lie. Additionally, she joined Fallon and Drew Barrymore for a polygraph test, showcasing her fun-loving spirit and resilience.
Shakira’s candid remarks not only shed light on her personal journey but also underscore her empowerment and strength as a woman in the music industry. Despite facing challenges, she continues to thrive and succeed, inspiring audiences worldwide with her resilience and talent.
