Shatta Wale Says He Wants Nigerian Passport After Slamming Ghana
Popular Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has stirred controversy after publicly declaring his desire to leave Ghana and become a Nigerian citizen. In a heated Instagram post on April 13, 2025, the outspoken musician expressed his deep frustration with how Ghanaians treat successful people like him.
According to Shatta Wale, Ghanaians don’t appreciate wealth or talent, and he’s tired of constant criticism. The singer made it clear that he wants a Nigerian passport and plans to relocate permanently. “Nigerians please tell President Tinubu or your government so I get a Nigerian passport,” he said, before describing Ghana as a “toilet country.”
His outburst came after backlash for hosting Nigerian social media influencer, Peller, whom many Ghanaians mocked as undeserving of Shatta’s attention. The criticisms did not sit well with the artist, who responded by saying that Ghanaians are quick to tear down anyone who is successful.
In his post, Shatta didn’t hold back. “If I buy a house they will say it’s not mine, even when I bought my new car, they said it’s not mine,” he added. He also mentioned plans to sell his properties in Ghana and buy new ones in Nigeria.
He went further to ask Nigerians to give him a local name and support his request to get citizenship. His words have sparked major discussions online, with some supporting his move and others criticizing his comments as too harsh.
While this isn’t the first time Shatta Wale has made bold statements about Ghana and its entertainment industry, this one has certainly reignited debates about how successful celebrities are treated in their home countries.
