Sony’s ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Dominates U.K. and Ireland Box Office, Outperforms ‘Dune 2

In a triumphant debut, Sony’s latest installment in the Ghostbusters franchise, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” has seized the top spot at the U.K. and Ireland box office, raking in an impressive £4 million ($5.1 million), as reported by Comscore.

This stellar performance marks the end of the three-week reign of Warner Bros.’ “Dune: Part II,” with the Timothée Chalamet-led epic slipping to second place after earning £2.6 million in its fourth weekend, bringing its total earnings to £30.7 million.

Meanwhile, Black Bear’s horror film “Immaculate,” featuring Sydney Sweeney, made a chilling debut in third place, generating £522,583 in ticket sales. Studiocanal’s “Wicked Little Letters” maintained a steady presence in fourth place, earning £373,505 in its fifth weekend and accumulating a total of £8.1 million.

Universal’s “Migration” rounded off the top five, adding £370,464 to its coffers in its eighth weekend, with a cumulative total of £19.5 million.

Two additional debuts made their mark in the top 10: Vertigo’s “Late Night With The Devil,” landing in seventh place with £220,436, and Trafalgar’s “Romeo Et Juliette – Met Opera 2023/24” claiming the tenth spot with £81,880.

As the Easter holidays approach, a slew of new releases is set to hit theaters. Trafalgar Releasing brings audiences the music documentary “Hate To Love: Nickelback” and the drama-thriller “Mother’s Instinct,” starring Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway. Additionally, Universal unleashes “Kung Fu Panda 4” and Warner Bros. presents “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.”

For fans of festival fare, there’s an array of options to choose from. Metfilm Distribution offers Singaporean auteur Anthony Chen’s Sundance title “Drift,” Conic Giacomo Abbruzzese’s Berlinale winner “Disco Boy,” and more.

Classic cinema enthusiasts can rejoice with Studiocanal’s 4K restoration of “The Lavender Hill Mob” and Park Circus’ 60th-anniversary re-release of “Mary Poppins.”
