Sylvester Madu Clears Air on Okrika Rumours
Popular Nollywood actor Sylvester Madu, widely known for his role as Shina Rambo, has come out to deny claims that he sells okrika, or second-hand clothes. This follows a viral 2023 video that captured him selling clothes in a market in Enugu, which led many to assume he had turned to selling used clothing.
However, in a recent interview with media personality Patience Yisa, Madu addressed the rumours and made it clear that he is not an okrika seller. He explained that just because the clothes were displayed on the floor does not mean they were second-hand. According to him, all his items are brand new and imported directly from the United States.
“First of all, I don’t sell okrika. Those clothes I was filmed selling are not necessarily okrika because they were on the floor,” he clarified. “I import from the U.S. I have multiple shops, and I have boys who sell for me.”
Madu also said he is actively involved in his clothing business and prefers not to sit back while others do the work. Despite being a well-known actor, he emphasized that he doesn’t mind getting involved directly, describing himself as a hands-on businessman.
“I don’t do big man. I go to the field to sell by myself,” he said. “I monitor my business. I’ve been doing this business for over 30 years.”
So, is Sylvester Madu selling second-hand clothes? The actor has made it clear—he is not. He imports and sells brand-new clothing and is simply passionate about his side business.
His story serves as a reminder that no job is too small and that even celebrities can run businesses without shame or excuses.
