Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Lioness’ Renewed for Second Season on Paramount+

Paramount+ has officially greenlit a second season of the riveting Taylor Sheridan drama “Lioness,” starring Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman. Additionally, acclaimed actor Morgan Freeman, who made appearances in two episodes of the first season, has been promoted to a series regular for the upcoming sophomore run.

Jeff Grossman, executive vice president of programming at Paramount+, expressed excitement about the renewal, citing the overwhelming support from viewers for the series’ compelling narrative and the stellar performances of the cast. He emphasized the anticipation for more heart-stopping suspense and action that Taylor Sheridan and his talented team are set to deliver in the second season.

Originally titled “Special Ops: Lioness,” the series debuted with a bang, setting a record as the most-watched worldwide series premiere on launch day on Paramount+, drawing nearly 6 million total viewers in its first week when considering global and linear viewership after a sampling on Paramount Network.

Inspired by a real U.S. military program, “Lioness” follows the life of Joe (played by Saldaña) as she navigates the complexities of her personal and professional life while working for the CIA and engaging in the war on terror.

Chris McCarthy, from Paramount Global, lauded the captivating nature of “Lioness,” highlighting its success as one of the most-watched global series premieres on Paramount+ in the previous year. He praised Taylor Sheridan’s masterful storytelling and the exceptional performances of Kidman and Saldaña, promising audiences an immersive and thrilling journey in the upcoming second season.

The cast of “Lioness” also includes Michael Kelly, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, and Hannah Love Lanier. Sheridan serves as executive producer alongside a team including David C. Glasser, Nicole Kidman, Ron Burkle, and others.

“Lioness” joins a roster of Sheridan scripted originals at Paramount+ that includes hit series like “Yellowstone,” “Tulsa King,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” and “Landman,” all of which are currently in production. Additionally, Sheridan remains based at Paramount under a lucrative overall deal, with more exciting projects on the horizon.
