Tems Makes History on Spotify: Breaks Record for Nigerian Female Artists

On June 7, 2024, Tems set a new record for daily Spotify streams by a Nigerian female artist. The release of her debut album, Born In The Wild, catapulted her to this achievement, amassing an impressive 8 million streams in a single day.

Tems’ album release generated significant attention. On its opening day, Born In The Wild garnered 5.33 million global streams, placing her just behind Ayra Starr, whose sophomore album, The Year I Turned 21, recorded 6.3 million streams on its first day.

Tems’ rise to international stardom began in 2021 with her standout performance on Wizkid’s global hit, Essence. Since then, she has become one of the fastest-rising artists worldwide. Born In The Wild, her much-anticipated debut album, features 18 tracks, including collaborations with Nigerian superstar Asake and American rapper J. Cole.

Before the album’s release, Tems dropped two lead singles, Me & U and Love Me Jeje, which have accumulated over 99 million and 32 million streams respectively. The success of these singles highlights her superstar status and sets high expectations for her debut album’s commercial performance.
