Terrorists, bandits, using fertilizers to make IEDs, says army
The Nigerian army has said the 200 bags of fertilizer seized by the headquarters of 28 Task Force Brigade, Madagali in Adamawa was effected after it was discovered that Boko Haram and bandits were making use of fertilizers to make IEDs.
Disclosing this in a statement on Wednesday, Army Public Relations Officer, Haruna Sani, pointed out that the ban would prevent Boko Haram and bandits from gaining access to the product.
Sani denied claims that the seized fertilizers were being sold to farmers, adding that the army will not be distracted by such allegations.
He said, “In order to put the record straight, it is pertinent to state that in Adamawa State, there is currently a ban imposed on the importation of fertilizer by the state government.
“The development is as a result of the activities of terrorists, who use fertilizers to make improvised explosive devices, IEDs, for their criminal activities”.
He added, “Sequel to the ban by the state government, troops intercepted defaulters who were conveying about 200 bags of the banned product. The Nigerian army has since handed over the seized fertilizers to the Nigerian police”.
