Terry G Rejects Comparison to Portable Calls It Disrespectful

Street pop pioneer Terry G has spoken out against ongoing comparisons between him and fellow artist Portable, calling it disrespectful. In a post shared on his official X account on April 14, 2025, the veteran singer and producer expressed his displeasure at being likened to Portable, who rose to fame in 2021.

According to Terry G, his music has stood the test of time, with songs people still enjoy more than a decade after release. He believes this enduring influence sets him apart. While both artists are known for their unconventional fashion and bold personalities, Terry G insists their contributions to Nigerian music are not on the same level.

Fans have frequently compared the two because of their energetic styles and controversial public appearances. Portable has built a reputation for his viral antics and frequent troubles, including run-ins with the police. Terry G, known as the “Akpako Master,” was also known for his wild stage presence and unique sound, mixing Galala, White Garment music, and hip hop into his signature “Free Madness” brand.

Despite rejecting the comparison, Terry G previously acknowledged that he sees a reflection of his younger self in Portable. He made this statement during an interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast, noting that he understands the younger artist’s energy and creativity.

Interestingly, the two have worked together before. Portable featured Terry G on his track “Ogbafia,” and they also teamed up on C Prince’s song “Koba,” showcasing their shared roots in street music.

At the moment, Portable is unable to respond to Terry G’s remarks, as he is being held in a correctional facility in Kwara State. He is facing legal issues following criminal defamation charges brought against him by Fuji music legend King Saheed Osupa.
