The Drama Between Spyro and Ubi Franklin Over Unpaid Debts

Nigerian singer Spyro and music executive Ubi Franklin are currently embroiled in a heated online dispute, and the root of the drama appears to be unpaid debts, specifically a $5,000 payment. Here’s a breakdown of the situation.

The issue began when Spyro appeared on the Echoo Room podcast and revealed that Ubi Franklin had used the name of Nigerian music star Davido to get him to perform at an event. Franklin allegedly promised Spyro that he would be paid $5,000 for the performance, a sum that Spyro claimed was far below his usual fee of ₦20 million.

Spyro went on to explain that after the performance, he contacted Ubi Franklin to request the payment, but despite repeated reminders, the money was never paid. According to Spyro, he spent months chasing after Franklin for the agreed amount, with WhatsApp messages showing his frustration. In one of the messages, Spyro stated, “Oga Ubi, it’s not nice that I have to be chasing you for money I worked for, considering that it’s not even close to my charge. Please fix this.”

As the situation dragged on, Spyro allegedly sent another reminder on December 24, 2024, saying, “Big man, it’s 24th today, and yet nothing on the money. Whatever happens today, please take it that I have tried.” However, Ubi Franklin interpreted this message as a threat, which led to further tension between the two.

In addition to the $5,000 payment dispute, Ubi Franklin also raised another issue involving a 10% commission on a car worth ₦105,000,000 that he allegedly helped Spyro purchase. Spyro, however, argued that he had an agreement with the car dealership to receive a 10% discount for promoting the vehicle. He also posted evidence showing that he had paid ₦100,426,500 after making a promotional video for the car, claiming this resolved the matter.

Since the interview went viral, Spyro has continued to call out Ubi Franklin, demanding payment for the performance. Meanwhile, Franklin is still insisting that Spyro owes him the 10% commission for the car deal.
