Tight Security and Shutdown: Computer Village Paralyzed as Tinubu Unveils Red Line Rail Project in Ikeja
The unveiling of the Red Line Rail project by President Bola Tinubu in the Ikeja area of Lagos led to the shutdown of the bustling Computer Village and the paralysis of commercial activities on Thursday. Roads in Ikeja were blocked, manned by numerous security operatives, including armed policemen, civil defense personnel, DSS agents, and soldiers, creating a highly secured environment. This tight security caused inconvenience for many, with journalists being harassed and turned away, despite possessing valid identification tags.
The closure of Computer Village left a large number of traders stranded, unable to access their businesses, and expressing frustration over the situation. Key thoroughfares like Obafemi Awolowo Road and Medical Road were also shut down, as security personnel took control of the area, with DSS operatives seen chasing after hoodlums and individuals filming the scene.
Amidst the disruption caused by security measures, the Red Line rail project stands as a significant development. The project proposes a 37-kilometer North-South rail route stretching from Agbado to Marina, with 13 stations strategically located along the route. These stations include Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, MMIA International, MMIA Domestic, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, Ebute Meta, Iddo, Ebute Ero, and Marina.
