Newcastle United have completed a £33million deal to bring Bruno Guimaraes to St James’ Park from Lyon, a move that was their third big-name arrival of the month.The Brazil international with three caps to his name, the central midfielder’s arrival is seen as a major signal of intent on Tyneside with clubs such as Arsenal among those who were chasing his signature.
Guimaraes will be aided by playing in a jersey with a familiar number on the back. The 24-year-old has been handed the No.39 at St James’, a number that holds a special place in his heart as it is a tribute to his father.
The player’s dad is a taxi driver in Brazil and his cab number is 39.
Having worn it during his time with Lyon, it seems only right that he continues to wear 39 as he continues his career with Newcastle.
