Toyin Lawani Warns Expectant Mothers About Epidural Risks After Painful Experience
Renowned celebrity designer Toyin Lawani has issued a strong warning to expectant and new mothers about the dangers of epidural anesthesia, sharing her personal struggles with severe health complications.
In an emotional Instagram video, Lawani revealed that she has been battling intense back pain, spine degeneration, and even temporary paralysis after receiving an epidural during childbirth. She expressed frustration over the lack of awareness surrounding the long-term side effects, stating that many women are not adequately informed before making the decision.
The mother of three explained that despite doctors mentioning potential risks, they often do not fully disclose the lifelong impact the procedure could have. She disclosed that she knows multiple women experiencing similar issues, questioning why such critical information is not widely discussed.
Lawani lamented that at just 42 years old, she is dealing with severe spine issues, requiring implants and constant medical attention. She described her daily struggles, including difficulty standing for long periods, breathing issues, and unrelenting pain. According to her, she underwent two epidurals—one for childbirth and another for a medical procedure—but has since faced continuous health problems.
Her revelation has sparked conversations among women, with many sharing their own experiences and concerns about epidural risks. While the procedure is commonly used to ease labour pains, Lawani’s testimony has raised awareness about the need for more education and informed decision-making.
