Two Impersonators Arrested for Posing as Soldiers in Lagos
In a significant development, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Lagos State Police Command, has apprehended two individuals, Jonathan Yahaya and Mohammed Umar, for allegedly impersonating soldiers within Lagos State. The arrests were made following diligent efforts by an officer from the Nigerian Army, who promptly handed over the suspects to the police authorities.
According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Command, the suspects were brought to the Onikan Police Division by a Major from the 81 Division, Nigerian Army Provost, Bonny Camp, Victoria Island, Lagos. Hundeyin disclosed that one of the suspects was caught wearing camouflage trousers and black combat boots, while the other was clad in a Nigerian Army uniform.
Upon interrogation, it became evident that both Yahaya and Umar were impersonating soldiers, as they could not provide satisfactory explanations regarding their possession of army uniforms. Consequently, they were detained pending further investigation, with plans to prosecute them in court upon the conclusion of inquiries.
The incident underscores the seriousness with which the Nigerian Army and law enforcement agencies approach cases of impersonation and fraudulent activities. Such actions not only undermine the integrity of the military but also pose security risks to society.
