Wizkid Breaks Spotify Nigeria Records with Morayo Album

Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Wizkid, whose real name is Ibrahim Balogun, has shattered multiple records on Spotify Nigeria with his latest album, Morayo. The album, released as a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, has become the most streamed album in a single day in Spotify Nigeria’s history, amassing an impressive 12 million streams. This achievement doubles the previous record set by Asake’s Lungu Boy.

Morayo also set a new benchmark as the biggest debut of any African album on Spotify, earning a total of 16.27 million streams globally within its first 24 hours.

Wizkid didn’t stop there—his track Kese (Dance) from the album now holds the record for the most single-day streams for a song on Spotify Nigeria, surpassing his previous hit, Piece Of My Heart.

The album features collaborations with notable artists such as Asake, Brent Faiyaz, Jazmine Sullivan, Anaïs, and Tiakola. Its 16 tracks include fan favorites like Troubled Mind, Karamo, Bad Girl, Time, Pray, and A Million Blessings.

Born in Surulere, Lagos, on July 16, 1990, Wizkid has risen from his humble beginnings to become one of Africa’s most celebrated music icons. His career boasts an impressive discography, including Ayo (2014), Sound From The Other Side (2017), Made In Lagos (2020), and More Love, Less Ego (2022). His collaboration with Beyoncé on Brown Skin Girl earned him a Grammy in 2021, further cementing his global influence.
