Yemi Alade Accuses Cool FM of Blacklisting Her Music Over Event Disagreement

Nigerian singer Yemi Alade is embroiled in a new feud with Cool FM Nigeria and CloudAfrica FM after accusing the stations of blacklisting her music. On Thursday night, the 35-year-old artist took to social media to air her grievances, claiming that her refusal to attend a Cool FM event in December 2023 led to her entire music catalogue being removed from the station’s playlist for nearly a year.

Alade explained that although she had been invited by Cool FM to perform at their December event, she was unable to make it. After the missed performance, she reached out to the station to apologize for her absence, but she was met with cold responses. Unbeknownst to her, the station’s management, including Serge Noujaim and Joseph Adamu, reportedly held a grudge against her for the no-show, which she believes led to the blacklisting of her music.

In a series of pointed tweets, Alade accused Cool FM and CloudAfrica FM of intentionally refusing to play her songs, despite her efforts to resolve the situation. She claimed that not only were her latest tracks omitted from their playlists, but her entire catalogue was removed, ensuring that no one at the stations would play her music, past or present.

“Since December 2023, I reached out in January, but you’re still refusing to play my music and making things difficult for my team,” Alade tweeted. “You’re not gatekeepers, and you’re not God, Mr Serge Noujaim and Mr Joseph Adamu.”

The singer expressed disbelief at how the stations chose to handle the situation, accusing them of intimidation and acting as though they could control her career. She questioned their decision to place an embargo on her songs without any effort to resolve the misunderstanding, calling their actions “careless.”

As of now, Cool FM has yet to respond to Alade’s accusations. The situation has sparked reactions from her fans, with many showing their support for the artist and criticizing the radio stations for their alleged treatment of her.
