YouTube to Host Ayra Starr’s Debut Live Concert in Nairobi
YouTube has announced its partnership with Raha Fest, a prominent creative industry platform in Kenya, to present Ayra Starr’s first live concert in Nairobi. This event marks a significant milestone for the rising star and promises to bring her incredible talent to an international audience.
Addy Awofisayo, YouTube’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, shared this exciting news in a statement released on Friday in Lagos. She emphasized that YouTube is not just a music platform; it serves as a bridge connecting artists with fans globally. “YouTube has always been a major force in promoting African music to the world,” Awofisayo stated, highlighting the platform’s role in showcasing African talent. She noted that over 70% of watch time on Nigerian channels comes from outside the country, illustrating YouTube’s contribution to providing a global audience for African music.
Nairobi was chosen as the concert location due to its vibrant music scene and strong cultural roots. Awofisayo believes the city is an ideal backdrop for Ayra Starr, given her growing fan base in Kenya and across East Africa. The concert will feature performances of new tracks from her latest project, “The Year I Turned 21,” along with popular fan favorites, creating an intimate experience for attendees.
The live concert will be streamed on YouTube, allowing fans worldwide to join in on this special event. In addition to the concert, Ayra Starr’s fans, affectionately called “Mobstarrs,” will have the chance to engage directly with her through the “Woman Commando” YouTube Shorts challenge. This initiative invites fans to showcase their own interpretations of her hit single. Exclusive behind-the-scenes content will also be featured, adding an extra layer of excitement to the experience.
Ashleigh Ali, CEO of Raha Creative Kenya, expressed pride in partnering with YouTube for this event, stating that it aims to create an unforgettable music experience while merging Kenya’s thriving creative scene with global acts. This collaboration not only supports cultural exchange but also positions Kenya as a premier destination for tourism and entertainment.
