Zulum visits Bama, announces Christmas largesse for 700 soldiers, commanders
The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Tuesday, a day after he carpeted the military for the inability to secure Maiduguri, the state capital, gave gifts to soldiers for gallantry in the commercial town of Bama.
The governor on Tuesday, during a visit to the headquarters of 151 Battalion in Bama, announced Christmas packages for each of the 700 soldiers and their officers for gallantry and tacking Boko Haram, while remaining undefeated.
Zulum had earlier had a closed door meeting with commander of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, Brig. Gen. Waheed Shaibu and Commanding Officer of the 151 Battalion, Maj. A.A Umar.
While addressing the troops, he said, “While we have challenges in some areas, we have successes in others and one of those areas is this 151 Battalion because you have never been defeated by the Boko Haram since formation.
“This battalion has largely stabilized the areas under your jurisdiction here in Bama. I am here to, on behalf of government and the people of Borno state, register our appreciation.
“We came with our widow’s mite. Food will come your way and i have given a message to your commander which will reach each one of you.
“Nothing can compensate for your sacrifices. We are grateful and we pray that Allah continues to protect all of you here and all our troops and volunteers and sustain your strength to remain undefeated”.
The governor also directed the construction of housing complex in Bama.
The governor, after inspecting Gurusoye, a village behind the battalion’s headquarters that Boko Haram destroyed, directed the construction of 200 new homes in the area for settlement purposes.
